Glow & Go Cafe | Outdoor Custom Designed Native American Fiberglass Sculpture

Designed for the garden entrance of Glow & Go Cafe, this large-scale Native American portrait sculpture, produced to withstand outdoor conditions, transforms the venue's welcoming point into a powerful art object.

01 — Custom Designed Native American Sculpture for Glow & Go Cafe

The starting point of the project was to create a clear focal point at the garden entrance of the venue. The search for a figure compatible with the cafe's bohemian style, natural textures, and free atmosphere found its match in the Native American portrait with a strong silhouette provided by its feathered headdress.

When designing the sculpture, its form and proportions were conceived together with the arch structure at the entrance. The circular expansion of the headdress was scaled to create a natural frame at the upper level of the entrance; the facial expression was kept calm and serene, relating to the peaceful atmosphere of the venue. Closed eyes, symmetrical face paints, and the central geometric detail create a simple balance that brings the composition to a single focal point.

In site-specific sculpture design, the most critical issue is the object's correct relationship with its surroundings. For this reason, the scale of the sculpture was determined considering the open perspective of the garden and the tree texture in the background. The result was a custom-designed sculpture that offers a strong silhouette when viewed from a distance and a detailed surface when viewed up close.

02 — Fiberglass Sculpture Production, Outdoor-Appropriate Paint and Varnish Protection

The body of the sculpture was produced from fiberglass. Fiberglass is preferred for large-scale sculptures because it offers both lightness and durability; it is much easier to transport, position, and install at height. It also preserves surface details without loss, ensuring that fine transitions such as feather textures, facial features, and jewelry details are clearly maintained.

Outdoor-appropriate acrylic paint was used during the coloring phase. The painting was applied in layers by hand; transitions close to natural wood and earthy tones were achieved for the feathers on the headdress, while a softer and more matte surface was created for the face. This layered work prevents the sculpture from appearing as a flat surface under daylight, adding depth.

In the final stage, the entire surface was protected with varnish. The varnish layer slows down the fading of the paint due to UV exposure, reduces direct contact of rain and humidity with the surface, and makes cleaning easier. Thus, a long-lasting and easy-to-maintain surface was created for a fiberglass sculpture that would be continuously displayed outdoors.

03 — Integration of the Sculpture with the Garden Concept and Brand Identity

The sculpture was positioned precisely in the center of the arch at the garden entrance, at the same height as the signs. Thanks to this placement, the object ceases to be merely a decorative element and becomes an architectural marker defining the entrance to the venue. Guests encounter the sculpture before stepping into the garden, perceiving the concept of the venue from the very first second.

The macrame textures, wooden sun loungers, natural vegetation, and earthy tones in the garden speak the same language as the sculpture's color palette. Scale is also decisive in this relationship: the sculpture was designed to be large enough not to get lost in the expanse of the open space, yet balanced enough not to overwhelm the entrance.

In commercial venues, the most tangible contribution of site-specific sculptures is to create a recognizable visual signature for the brand. At Glow & Go Cafe, this sculpture functions both as a natural meeting point for taking photos and as a symbol that directly evokes the venue on social media.
